Is there anyone in the world who makes more consistently deep wines than viticulturist David Abreu and former chef Brad Grimes, his long-time sidekick and assistant? Working from small sites, two of which are adjacent to St. Helena’s back streets (the six-acre Cappella Vineyard alongside a cemetery and the Madrona Ranch home estate at the base of Spring Mountain), to the magnificent Thorevilos Vineyard behind the Meadowood Resort, which he co-owns with Ric Forman. On Howell Mountain, he has his own 2,000-foot elevation location.
